**The course will be held Saturday and Sunday 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. **

The course offers the opportunity to obtain IPP 2 certificate, which is the entry requirement in most kayak clubs. An IPP 2 certificate also gives access to our kayak club, the Kayak Pilots, where there is NO waiting list. The course itself does not require any prior knowledge in kayaking, but you must be comfortable on the water, and in regular physical shape. Along the way, you will get good routines in the kayak, so you are ready to row with others during the summer months (May to October).
**The course includes the following: **\
- Handling the kayak\
- Entrance by kayak from boat bridge and beach\
- Rowing technology, brake roof and steering roof\
- Bagror\
- Side displacement with sliding roof\
- Sideshift with sculling (beginning skill)\
- Edging the kayak\
- Low support roofs\
- Sculling as beginning skill\
- Telemark swing
**Water Exercises: **\
- Wet exit (get out of the kayak safely and efficiently)\
- Swimming towing own kayak\
- Mate rescue\
- Self-rescue with paddle float\
- Assisted Greenlander (water recovery exercise)
**The Theory: **\
- The sea kayak, structure, type, bottom shape, materials\
- Paddle\
- Kayak clothing\
- First aid and injuries\
- Basic traffic rules and safety at sea
**Prerequisites: **
No prior knowledge is necessary, but you should be in normal physical shape and be comfortable with water.
**Evidence: **\
- Kayak hotel's own course certificate\
- Option for Euro Paddle Pass\
- Sea kayak IPP 2 certificate (certification fee DKK 249, -)
**Please bring the following to the course yourself: **
- Nice large lunch package (bring your own cooler bag/cooling elements).
- Powerbar/fruit/chocolate/nuts/raisins in a freezer bag - quick energy to carry on the water.
- Water bottle (it is important to keep the fluid balance at even).
- Suitable kayak shoes, preferably neoprene shoes (wet shoes). If you do not have neoprene shoes, these can be purchased at the storefor a special course price. We advise against bare feet!
- Inner lining according to the 3-layer principle depending on the season (described in the next section). If you need long underwear /insulating clothing, this can be purchased at our well-stocked shop in Amager Strandpark.
**In addition, we recommend that you bring: **
- Swimwear/towel.
- A hat, to wear in the water and on the water.
- Cap/sunhat/sunglasses as well as sunscreen during the summer season.
- Glasses cord if you want to wear glasses/sunglasses with you on the water.
- Warm clothes for the breaks.
- Changing clothes.
For the course, kayak wetsuit (so-called longjohn without sleeves, and with a zipper at the front), anorak, swimming vest, kayak, paddle, spray deck and safety equipment are on loan.
**Understand the 3-layer principle and how to dress according to the conditions! **
First of all, we dress according to the 3-layer principle. Briefly described, the principle consists of one:
- Inner layer (1st layer), which is a sweat-wicking layer, such as wool or sportswear in plastic (e.g. trackwear/ski underwear).
- Middle layer (2nd layer), which is an insulating layer of wool or fleece, preferably in a thicker material (the cooler the air/water the more layers you can fill, and preferably more thin layers than one thick one)
- Outer layer (3rd layer), which is a shell layer that is water and windproof (anorak is used here, as well as wetsuit that both insulates as a 2nd layer and is wind/waterproof).
Feel free to show up dressed in swimwear and tight-fitting sportswear in plastic or wool under your normal clothes - then you can quickly get into the wetsuit.
Visit the Kayak Hotel shop and kayak centre in Amager Strandpark if you need neoprene shoes, for example. Here you can use the above offer for neoprene shoes by contacting the store with the name and course date. The Kayak hotel store in Amager Strandpark has a well-stocked selection where you can find everything from wet shoes, water bottles, hats, caps, gloves, goggles, underwear and outerwear. What is carried on the water is also possible to lose in the water and Kajakotel does not take responsibility for lost effects.
**Registration for the course is binding. **
If you purchased a cancellation guarantee at the same time as your booking, you have the option to cancel your booking up to 10 days before the booked date.
This means that you get the payment back, however, minus the 10% that the cancellation guarantee costs. If there are 10 days or less left, you have the opportunity to rebook once within 12 months - this also applies in case of illness. Simply notify us no later than 24 hours before the course. If 24 hours or less are left, it is no longer possible to rebook.
Kajakhotellet blev grundlagt i 2005 af de passionerede kajakentusiaster Anders Nielsen og Peter Bondesen. Det hele begyndte med en fælles kærlighed til kajakroning og ønsket om at skabe et unikt sted, hvor både nybegyndere og erfarne roere kunne skabe et fællesskab med havkajakken som omdrejningspunkt. Fra en cirkusvogn, fællesomklædning og toiletter der frøs til henover vinteren, dyrkede vi sammen kærligheden for kajak og vandsport. I 2006 blev Lucia i kajak i de københavnske kanaler en fast tradition som nu er blevet et tilløbsstykke med 4-500 deltagere, og 40-50.000 tilskuere på land! Jørgen Schubert kom senere til som butikschef, og med hans erfaring for detail og detalje, samt baggrund med kitesurfing, events og vandsport var det et perfekt match. Når man træder ind i vores butik og café i Amager Strandpark, så mærk den stemning og den "surfer vibe" som Jørgen har skabt! Siden vi begyndte rejsen, er der løbet meget vand gennem åen, og vores “lille” kajaksted har kunnet udvikle sig sammen med kunder og ikke mindst vores medlemmer, og er vokset til så meget mere! I dag er Kajakhotellet danmarks vel nok største vandsportscenter med havkajak, surfski, stand up paddleboard (SUP), kitesurfing, wing og foil. Komplet med kurser, klub, opbevaring, butik, café, yoga, sauna, stort udvalg, god service, god kaffe, events og opbevaring af kajakker og SUP på vores 2 lokationer i Amager Strandpark og Kalvebod Bølge.
Uden vores fantastiske medarbejdere kunne alt dette dog slet ikke lade sig gøre!
